Luxo Merisier oversees KKC’s supply chain in Haiti’s coffee mecca, Thiotte. Luxo has a long family history in coffee; his father and brothers are coffee farmers in his home town. With no public schools in Haiti, his father began producing coffee as a way of sending his children to school. After working for several area cooperatives, his dad founded the first farmer cooperative in 1998. Luxo sees many youth in his town aren’t interested in coffee but he has hope, “If we invest in coffee and show them it can be profitable, they’ll be interested. We need to bring it back.” Luxo, a new father to a 9-month old baby girl, is on his way; he was a part of a team who won Haiti’s coffee of the year in 2015.
